Any eco-system (e.g. forests or soils) that removes greenhouse gases from the atmosphere for at least a certain period of time. Possible project activities under Art. 3.3 of the Kyoto Protocol comprise afforestation and reforestation, under Art. 3.4 also crop and grassland management.
